Klaus Schuermann, Viennese bass, has enjoyed a long stage career in Austria, Germany and Switzerland, while appearing frequently on Austrian radio and television as a singer-actor. He has performed with such well-known artists as Ileana Cotrubas (Mozart’s Die Entfuehrung aus dem Serail—Osmin) at Schloss Schoenbrunn, Edith Mathis (Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro—Bartolo) in Luzerne, Switzerland and with Senta Berger, Curd Jurgens and Maximillian Schell in Jedermann at the famous Salzburg Festival. His operatic roles range from Dr. Bartolo in Rossini’s The Barber of Seville to Colline in Puccini’s La Boheme and he has sung major musical roles in Jesus Christ Superstar and Fiddler on the Roof.
Schuermann is active as a concert artist (Liederabende in Chicago, South Carolina) and enjoys performing popular standards with orchestra/combos. Recently he sang the role of Falstaff in Nicolai’s The Merry Wives of Windsor in Chicago. He received the degree in Opera and Operetta (with highest honors) from the Vienna Academy (now University) and is also an engineer. Upcoming performances include concerts in Vienna and South Carolina, including Mozart’s Requiem (new Levine Edition). He recently released a cd These Precious Days with his wife, Helen Tintes-Schuermann and Dick Goodwin, bandleader and composer.
